Educator for Over 30 Years and Advisor to the President on Aboriginal Affairs at the University College of the North
Doris Young (BA Hons. MPA) has been an educator for over 30 years. She is the Advisor to the President on Aboriginal Affairs at the University College of the North (UCN). She attended 3 residential schools and was a member of the Indian Residential School Survivor Committee (IRSC) an advisory committee to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC). Her passion has always been Aboriginal education and believes that education can help bring about reconciliation. . The UCN Onikaniwak Summer Institute is an example of building good relations thru partnerships, dialogue and knowledge of the Aboriginal culture, She is a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation , Treaty 5 area in northern Manitoba. She is a fluent Cree speaker.
