Dr. Mary LeMaître
French Professor in the Modern Languages Department at the University of Winnipeg
Dr. Mary LeMaître holds a PhD in French and Catholic Studies from the University of Manitoba (2008) and specializes in the analysis of social discourse. She is a French professor in the Modern Languages Department at the University of Winnipeg and author of three French language books. Since attending the TRC in Winnipeg in 2010, she has turned the focus of her research towards colonialism in Canada (in particular Residential Schools, the treaties, and the Indian Act) and the analysis of colonial discourse in online comments in Canadian newspapers. Her focus is on stereotypes about Indigenous Canadians: what they are, where they come from, how they affect our relationship, and how we can change them. She is currently writing a book on this topic. in addition to her academic work, she is the Communications person for KAIROS for the Cambrian-Agassiz region, a member of the board of Returning To Spirit, and part of the Meet Me @ The Bell Tower family.
